About this picture

“I took this picture of Daniel Craig playing Bond at Barrandov Studios in Prague, where we were creating the Casino Royale on the sound stage. All the cast had done this really quite in-depth training in how to play poker, and I’m absolutely gutted, because I was invited to join some of those lessons and for whatever reason didn’t do it. I’ve regretted it my whole life, I never learnt. But everyone that did do it got very, very good at different things. There was this way they could spin the chips around their fingers, there were ways they could shuffle the cards and spread the cards, and this is what you see Daniel doing here. He got incredibly proficient at all this stuff.”

“The picture itself I love because the cards sort of create Daniel’s space in which we find him. Just like the cards are white, Daniel’s white against a largely dark setting, against the dark table. And then on the right you have the empty seat, which is for the dealer, and you can see the words Casino Royale, and the dealer stamp, and the chips. I suppose it’s a very cool, quiet moment of a now very famous scene, which I loved to take.”
